5 Stretching Exercises To Relieve Back Pain

Low Back Stretch:

This is accomplished by sitting upright on the floor with your legs together and stretched straight out. Take the exercise band and wrap it around your feet holding on to both ends with your hands. “Climb” towards your foot using the band pulling yourself one hand in front of the other. Do this until you can feel the stretch going from your calves all the way to your spine and lower back. Hold this for 8-10 seconds breathing normally. Do this 3 times.

Groin Stretch:

Lay on your back with your legs almost in a split. Bend your left leg till your foot is flat on the floor. Wrap the elastic band on the right foot and gently pull with both arms. Hold this for another 8-10 seconds and then repeat 3 times. Then switch legs and do it all over again.

Glutes and External Rotator Stretch:

Still laying with your back to the ground wrap the elastic band around one toe and straighten that leg, holding on to the band. Once it is extended then twist at the hip until that leg is on the ground, keeping your back as flat as can be. Hold this for the full 8-10 seconds repeating 3 times and then switch legs.

Hamstring Stretch:

Assume the same position as the External Rotator Stretch and instead of twisting at the hip, stay straight, with your leg straight up and pull gently back towards your head. This stretches the hamstring, which relives some of the tension from the back.

Quad Stretch:

Lay face down and wrap the elastic band around your toe pulling your leg towards your head. Once you feel your front thigh fully stretched, hold it for 8 seconds and then repeat two more times and do the same with the other leg.

These exercises will not only make you stronger and a bit more flexible, they will also be great stretching exercises to relieve back pain.

First crush one tablespoon of the celery seeds then pour boiling water over them and let them steep for 5 minutes. strain the liquid through a cheese cloth and let it cool enough to drink. Do this everyday to relieve the discomfort of the kidney stones. Celery seed is a uterine stimulant so if you are pregnant do not use this method, talk to your doctor first.

Remember the saying, "An apple a day keeps the doctor away"? Well, an apple a day may also keep the kidney stones away. I do not think it matters what kind of apple just so you eat one everyday. If you have kidney stones the apple will give you some relief and if you don't have kidney stones the apple is one of several good home remedies for kidney stones you can try.

All About Ear Infections And Remedies

Getting an ear infection is a commonplace event for a lot of people. The human ear canal is quite susceptible to fungal and bacterial infections, this is even more true when it comes to younger children. Some estimates suggest that over twenty million pediatric visits can be attributed to nothing more than ear infections.

However, ear infections are not only found in youngsters. If you are an adult who frequently gets ear infections, then there's a good chance you'd be happy to discover useful information about the condition, as well as possible remedies. The medical name for an ear infection is Otitis media. The infection occurs in an area directly behind the eardrum. It is most often caused by bacteria coming from some outside source. When the tubes do not drain the excess fluid properly it can lead to ear infections. One common example occurs during a bout with the common cold. Some of the follicles in the Eustachian tubes stop working the way they should, that, in turn, allows the bacteria to continue building up until an ear infection occurs.

Now, understanding the mechanism behind ear infections is one thing, but you need to know what the actual symptoms are to ensure proper treatment. The most noticeable symptom is pain. This pain runs the range from mildly irritating to the unbearably painful. It is also possible for discharge to be present, though that's not always the case. Further symptoms, at later stages, can include vomiting and fever. Because the ear is largely responsible for our sense of balance, some people may experience dizziness or a loss of balance.

The good news is that there are several different ways relieve and cure ear infections. It's no surprise that antibiotics are a favorite treatment amongst the doctors who can prescribe them. There's nothing wrong with them, but the person suffering from the infection may not be able to see their doctor for a while, and they need relief from the discomfort now.

That's where home remedies for ear infections come in handy. The first one most people opt for is over-the-counter ear drops made specifically for this purpose. If those don't work, or all the stores are closed, you can always try some of the following: garlic that has been cooked in oil, lemon juice or vinegar. However, these should only be used as a last resort.

Overlooked and Undiagnosed and Women With Attention Deficit Disorder

Due to a variety of circumstances, it's sort of been the norm that women with attention deficit disorder are overlooked and undiagnosed. Common wisdom is that ADD is more prevalent in men and boys than in women and girls.

If you are a women who feels stressed out, distracted, overwhelmed, with too many responsibilities and no time for sleep or friends then you too may have symptoms of ADD. But what woman doesn't feel like that these days? It's precisely this that makes it hard to diagnose ADD in women.

Women with ADD were girls with ADD, since girls tend to display the "inattentive" versus the "hyper" type of behavior, the symptoms were easy to over look. Girls tend to be more protected and their lack of accomplishments may not be quite a concern to the adults around her.

Problems tend to arise as the responsibilities increase. Women in our societies are expected to organize for the men and kids around them. A man with ADD usually just replaces his parents and teachers with secretaries and wives. Women are still expected to be those organizing secretaries and wives.

Here are some common characteristics of women with attention deficit disorder that is undiagnosed or untreated:

1. They feel depressed. ADD can lead to chaos in many aspects of their lives and they get discouraged when losing the battle with their hectic lives.

2. Some feel like they are capable of so much more and this is frustrating. They are often creative and intelligent but have a hard time harnessing those qualities and focusing them on plans or goals.

3. Others feel incompetent. They internalize their chronic disorganization and resulting failures.

4. Some manage successful professional lives but they break down at home. They are unable to take care of basic things like errands and bills. Still others have to spend tons of extra time and effort just to be able to match their co-workers.

5. They may feel immature because they can't reach the normal goals of adulthood due to their disorganization.

6. They feel overwhelmed.

7. They could may feel constantly bombarded by their daily enviroment, unable to stay focused because they are constantly distracted by even the littlest noises, sites, thoughts, etc.

8. They tend to move from one unfinished activity to another.

9. They have trouble planning, organizing, and prioritizing and often miss deadlines or have trouble gaging their time.

10. While they generate a flurry of ideas internally, they process information from the outside more slowly.

11. They spend a lot of time thinking about and trying new systems to get organized.

The symptoms and signs in women with attention deficit disorder are very common in women without it too. ADD is also a subject that has gained more attention in recent years, leading many more people to ask themselves "is this me?" You can find some information online. Attention Defecit Disorder And Attention Defecit Hyperactive Disorder and All The Symptoms May Sound Familiar

This topic causes a lot of confusion and one of the reasons is that, up until fairly recently, the two were considered to be the same thing.

Before 1987, the term ADD was used to describe people who had a hard time concentrating, keeping still and focusing, among other symptoms. In that year, ADD was renamed as ADHD and this longer term was broken down into the following three categories:

1) Predominantly Hyperactive-Impulsive type

2) Predominantly Inattentive Type

3) Combined Type

The second category (Predominantly Innattentive Type) is what we now refer to as ADD. Its symptoms include concentration and listening problems, difficulty in following conversations, and losing, misplacing and/or forgetting things on a regular basis.

In Hyperactive-Impulsive Type ADHD (which is what we now commonly refer to as ADHD), the individual may be chattery, restless, extremely impatient, fidgety all the time. He/She may also tend to interrupt when it is not appropriate and/or grab things from people (this refers more to children than to adults).

A person suffering from the combined type of ADHD will have symptoms from both categories.

So, one of the primary differences of ADD vs ADHD is the added component of hyperactivity in ADHD. The symptoms of ADD are more common in females and usually appear in children before the age of 7. Sometimes trying to figure out if the symptoms are really just a child's behavior may be difficult. A good rule of thumb to follow is. . .if these symptoms are always present on a consistent basis, ADHD could be the culprit.

ADHD is a neurobehavioral disorder affecting both children and adults - it is not a psychiatric disorder. In children, this disorder can hinder functional abilities and carry over into adulthood if not treated properly. The treatment for this disorder ranges from various types of behavioral therapies, at-home "training", exercise, proper nutrition, and medications.

The causes of ADHD could be learning disabilities, earlier traumas, psychological problems, or even some medical conditions. Children with ADD (the inattentive type ADHD) are often overlooked as they don't really create any problems at home or at school. But when left untreated, they tend not to do well in school and get in trouble for not following directions.

Relationships can also prove difficult for children and adults with ADD. Kids and adults with ADHD (the hyper-impulsive type) are often regarded as "moody" and tend to  overreact emotionally to certain situations. This can be seen as disrespectful or arrogant.

On the positive side, children with ADD and ADHD are frequently enthusiastic, incredibly creative and imaginative, with boundless energy. Many children with this disorder are marvelously talented, both intellectually and artistically. Therapy and medications can help these individuals to harness these positive aspects and put them to good use.

ADHD Testing

ADHD Testing and For Children And Yes The Adult

How do you go about getting ADHD testing for your child or yourself? Quite a bit of information must be collected in order for a medical professional to make the official diagnosis of ADHD. Some data is obtained through clinical interviews. In these interviews, you will be asked to complete behavior checklists or questionnaires for yourself or your child to give the professional more detailed information about the problematic behaviors. Obviously, it's important that you be as honest and objective as possible when filling out the forms so that a correct diagnosis can be made.

Further evaluations through observation and psychological and educational testing may then be performed. If your child is being evaluated, you and his teachers (or other important adults who observe your child's behavior in various settings) may be interviewed. A physical exam might also be suggested - this can be used to rule out any medical causes for the possible symptoms of ADHD. A family medical history is also helpful.

Here are a few questions you might want to bring up at the ADHD testing process:

1) Are there other medical or psychological conditions that may be the cause of what appear to be ADHD symptoms?

2) Could something else altogether be causing these symptoms or behavior problems?

3) Are there any environmental or situational factors that may make the symptoms worse or better?

4) Are learning disabilities a possibility?

More questions will probably come up as well. It's very important to ask any questions that educate both you and the doctor about what may be going on to cause the problematic behaviors. If and when a diagnosis of ADHD is made, you will most probably want to ask a bunch of additional questions regarding treatment options, parent education, and family support.

What kind of information should you have ready and available for the health care provider during the ADHD Evaluation?

It's a good idea to bring copies of any official records you may have such as medical, psychological and school/employment records. Also bring copies of any previous evaluations. Be prepared to give detailed developmental and social histories including pregnancy and birth history if at all possible. You'll want to have information available about any other professionals who were involved previously and that may have suggested that testing be done – this could include counselors, social workers, therapists, physicians, pediatricians, psychiatrists, psychologists, and teachers.

Most health care providers will actually send you a questionnaire to complete before the appointment so that you are ready to present them as soon as you arrive. Make sure to mark down any questions or comments that you have about particular questions, especially if there was some reason that you felt you couldn't answer them accurately.

When your child is the one in question for ADHD, make sure that you partake in a good interview. It's absolutely crucial that somebody sits down with you, as parents and spends at least 45 minutes to an hour with them.

ADHD testing should be involved and take a bit of time - it's extremely important to be able to get the correct results from these evaluations in order to come up with accurate solutions.
